Kelly's got a great teacher this year.
Once a month, he has an auction in the class, and I don't know where he gets the stuff to auction off, but there's been some pretty sweet things. The kids have an 'economy' in the class, and earn their 'class cash' by doing jobs, performing well on tests, and taking on extra responsibilities. Then, they can use this cash to bid on auction items.
Before Christmas, Kelly came home with a hard cover copy of "Al Capone Shines My Shoes", the new sequel to a literature circle book that she enjoyed in the fall.
And this past Friday, using almost four thousand class-cash dollars, she won an item in the latest auction.
First, she wanted to stay after school and play with it. Well, we had some time, so I said yes...
But it wasn't ready to be played with yet... she had to build it first.
Good thing that one of her classmates had just built one with his dad. Otherwise, we might still be there, trying to figure out how to build the silly thing. But oh boy, once it was put together? It was a thing of beauty!
A boat kite, reminiscent of the flying boat from Baron Von Munchausen's Adventures.
And such a good sister! She even let her brother have a turn flying it.
Only the one mishap, when the boat went crashing into her friend's head...
I don't think Kelly stopped... just kept running, to keep the kite up in the air.
There is something magic about a kite.
